POLICIES
WELCOME TO SALEM!
Welcome to Salem Gymnastics Sports Center! Our goal is to offer the finest sports programs in the area and make your child’s years at Salem be the highlight of their growing years!
PAYMENTS – Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. Fees are the same for each month regardless of holiday closures or “fifth” days. We will draft your account on the 1st of the month at a reduced rate, or you may put your payment in the box at SGSC or mail it; however it must be received at SGSC by the 5th to avoid late fees. We accept VISA, MasterCard, checks and cash, and we offer discounted tuition if you take advantage of monthly tuition draft. There is a $25.00 charge for all checks returned by the bank.
TERMINATION - Our school year term runs from August through May, and then summer in June, July, and August. If you wish to discontinue classes prior to the end of the term you must notify the office IN WRITING prior to the 20th to be dropped from the class for the following month. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL TUITION INCURRED BEFORE THE DATE OF NOTIFICATION.
REGISTRATION - All students are required to register before beginning classes each August. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, but are honored through the following summer session.
MAKE-UPS - Classes missed due to illness, injury, or special events may be made up within 30 days of the missed class during the Saturday FunGym hour. Programs will be offered for preschoolers as well as school-aged students. Please call the office ahead of time to schedule your make-up, as FunGyms are not offered every single Saturday (no FunGyms on holidays or during SGSC special events). Make-up passes will be issued and should be picked up at the office the day of the make-up. Tuition WILL NOT be adjusted for missed classes unless they are cancelled due to SGSC special events. If you cannot come to your make-up class, you must call and cancel or you forfeit the make-up.
OBSERVATION – Parents are welcome to stay and observe classes, however safety is a concern for those children who constantly "look" for mom or dad to watch them. It distracts from their concentration as well as the concentration of the rest of the class. For this reason, we ask that you observe classes from our balcony.
STUDENT ATTIRE – Gymnastics - Girls are to wear a leotard to every class. They may wear pull-on shorts and/or a t-shirt over the top of their leotard if they wish. Boys should wear a t-shirt tucked into pull-on shorts. No buckles or zippers, please. Bare feet are required. Long hair must be tied up off the shoulders (we recommend two side ponytails, as a back ponytail makes learning rolls painful).
Dance - Girls are to wear tights and a leotard (black preferred) to every class. Ballet shoes are required for ballet class, tap shoes are required for tap class. Jazz students may wear ballet or jazz shoes. Long hair must be tied back.
Karate – Students are to wear t-shirt and shorts, or their Gi. Bare feet are required.
Sports Basics – Students are to wear t-shirt and shorts and sneakers. T-ball students should bring a glove.
No jewelry or gum is allowed. We are not responsible for any items left in the gym, however we do have a Lost and Found.
STUDENT PICK-UP – Please park your car and come inside to pick up your children. Children are not allowed outside the building without adult supervision. If you do not pick up your child within 5 minutes of the last class of the day, you will be subject to a $5.00 supervision charge.
SNOW DAYS - In the event of inclement weather, please call the gym at 765-4668 and we will inform you of class status. We do not follow public school closings for snow days. Please do not assume that we are open or closed. Days missed due to bad weather will be made up.
NO GUM, SMOKING, OR PETS ALLOWED INSIDE THE BUILDING.
Salem Gymnastics Sports Center and MRSA
Here is some helpful information about MRSA from the CDC and Forsyth Co. Dept. of Public Health. Should you have any questions you should contact your family Doctor or Health Care Provider. This information is for awareness only, and is no guarantee that you or anyone in your family will not be exposed to MRSA. Knowledge is the first step, and following the simple steps below will help in prevention of hysteria and the containment of MRSA.
What MRSA looks like: MRSA skin infections begin as a small bump that may look like a pimple or a bug or spider bite. But, that little spot soon turns red, swells, gets hot, is painful to touch and fills with pus. Anyone with those symptoms should see a health care provider immediately.
How MRSA is spread: MRSA is spread through direct contact with the infected skin. MRSA tends to create a lot of pus, which is highly contagious. That’s why MRSA lesions need to be tightly bandaged to prevent draining pus from coming in contact with others. MRSA isn’t like the flu. You cannot get MRSA from an infected person’s cough or sneeze. Students with MRSA can come to school with no problems as long as their wounds are covered. You can’t catch the disease from being around them. People are at the highest risk of getting infected if they come in direct contact with the person’s wound or pus that drains from the wound.
Salem Gymnastics Sports Center has the following policies in place to help keep us MRSA-free:
1) Educating our clients on the truth about MRSA
2) Regular cleaning & sanitizing of mats with environmentally friendly Envirox (kills MRSA, HIV, + more)
3) Inspection of students at the beginning of class, requiring all cuts, scrapes, and sores be covered with a band-aid. Students with oozing pus sores will not be allowed to participate until the sores clear up.
4) Encouraging all students to take the steps outlined below.
Steps you can take to protect yourself/ your child from MRSA
1) Practice good hygiene by hand washing with soap and water or using an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Also be sure to shower after exercising.
2) Cover skin trauma (cuts and sores) until healed.
3) Avoid sharing personal items.
4) Maintain a clean environment.
5) Notify the staff immediately if you notice any problem at Salem.
6) Notify your doctor of any suspect sores.
We are dedicated to keeping Salem MRSA-Free!
