Gymnastics Routines
Beginner- Boys
Floor:
- Two directly connected tumbling skills (may be the same skill)
- Turn or go directly to a candlestick position or back roll (back roll
receives 0.1 bonus)
- Stand stretch arms up
- Optional Static hold (2 sec. hold)
- One tumbling skill or two tumbling skills (2 tumbling skills will receive
0.1 bonus)
- Immediate jump skill and stick
Tumbling skill examples:
Forward roll- all positions, backward roll- all positions, 1 & 2 arm cartwheels,
handstand rolls, round-off, etc.
Static Hold examples:
Tri-pod, tip-up, headstand, scales, arabesque, etc.
Jump skills examples:
Straight, tuck, straddle, pike, ½ turn, full turn, etc.
Horizontal Bar: (Gymnast should be able to mount the bar from the floor, mat or board)

Suggested skills:
- Cast
- Leg cut
- Rock back to knee kip
- *Back hip circle

Suggested Dismounts:

- Two attempts (examples: courage vault, squat on & off, straddle on & off, side
vault)
- *0.2 bonus for squat through
Parallel Bars:
- Jump to 2 sec. hold
- 2-2 ½ swings (*0.1 bonus if above horizontal)
- Skill
- 2-2 ½ swings (*1.0 bonus if above horizontal)
- Dismount
Hold examples:
Tuck, "L", straddle, "V", etc.
Skill examples:
Straddle travel, log roll, shoulder roll, 180 & 360 turns, simple Stutz, etc.
Dismount examples:
Rear flank off, tuck front and rear dismount, etc.
Competition Format: Beginner gymnasts will warm-up and compete one event at a time.
Intermediate/Advanced- Boys
Floor:
- Tumbling skill (0.1 bonus for front handspring or front tuck)
- Handstand roll, jump ½ turn or 1 ½ turn
- Back roll to straddle stand or back extension roll to straddle stand (*0.1
bonus for back extension roll)
- Press to tri-pod, headstand or handstand (*headstand and handstand will
receive 0.1 bonus)
- Press two feet down to stand, arms stretched up
- Two tumbling skills in direct connection
- Pivot turn kick or kick to handstand ½ pirouette
- Step down to stand, arms stretched up
- Scale (hold 2 sec.) arm position optional
- Stand stretch, arms up
- Round off, immediate tumbling skill or immediate two tumbling skills (*2
tumbling skills will receive 0.1 bonus)
Tumbling skills examples:
Cartwheels, handstand rolls, back extension rolls, front and back walkovers, aerials,
front and back handsprings, front and back tucks, etc.
Horizontal Bar:
Intermediate: (Bar should be high enough for gymnasts feet to clear the floor in
a straight-arm hang)
- Chin up
- Pullover to support
- Cast
- Back hip circle (.1 Bonus for "clear" hip circle)
- Under swing
- Tap swing forward (.1 Bonus for horizontal swing)
- Counter swing
- Swing ½ turn release to hollow landing
Advanced: (Height of bar optional)
- Chin up pullover mount
- Cast to ¾ giant, or 1 full giant (.1 Bonus), or two full giants (.2 Bonus) Finish in
support on bar
- Under swing
- Tap swing to ½ turn (to mixed grip)
- Forward swing in mixed grip, change grip on back swing
- Glide kip
- Cast
- Clear hip circle
- Under swing, back swing
- Swing to fly away dismount
Vault:
- Two attempts (side, front, squat over, straddle over)
- *0.3 bonus for front handsprings and headsprings
Parallel Bars:
- Under arm mount
- Skill
- 2 sec. hold skill (*0.1 bonus for "L" or "V")
- 2- 2 ½ swings
- Skill
- (*0.1 bonus for 3rd skill)
- 2- 2 ½ swings (*0.1 bonus for both swings 45 degrees or above)
- Dismount
Under arm mount examples:
straddle front uprise, back uprise, back roll, front uprise, under arm kip, etc.
Hold examples:
tuck, straddle, "L", "V", tuck and straddle planche, etc.
Skill examples:
shoulder stand, back roll, simple Stutz, forward and backward Stutz, 180 & 360
turns, cast catch, handstand pirouette, etc.
Dismount examples:
front, rear, Stutz, Wende, back and front offs, etc.
Competition Format: Intermediate/Advanced gymnasts will follow USAG warm-up
regulations.
