SALEM GYMNASTS ARE INSPIRED
BY A MORNING WITH MARY LOU RETTON

On Saturday, February 15 2003 gymnasts from Salem Gymnastics' Competitive Team enjoyed an inspiring speech & autograph session with 1984 Olympic All-Around Champion, Mary Lou Retton.
Beth Morphis was honored to introduce Mary Lou. She was at the Olympics in 1984 to see Mary Lou win her title, and she shared her thoughts with the audience. To read her introduction, click here.
Mary Lou was a great speaker. She spoke of the need for determination to succeed, not only in sport but business, family, health, and faith. She told the story of how she came from a West Virginia gymnast to train with Bela Karolyi, the guru of our sport. Her comments were littered with anecdotes and comical imitations of Bela. But her message of dedication rang loudly - preparation, preparation, preparation. "You never know when the door of opportunity will open. Be sure you're ready."
